A Guide to Key Jewelry Terms:

Gold is used in various forms, and understanding the differences between these types is crucial to avoiding surprises and ensuring the quality of jewelry. Here, we take a look at some common terms used to describe jewelry:

1- Gold Filled:

Jewelry coated with a layer of gold, where the gold in the outer layer is of an officially certified carat. The inner layer is filled with a cheap metal like copper or brass (brass is copper mixed with zinc). This type is common in flexible bracelets and it might sold at the price of gold per weight.

2- Heavy Gold Plated:

The base metal is made of silver or copper and is coated with a thick layer of gold. The gold layer represents about 2-5% of the total weight.

3- Gold Plated:

Jewelry made from inexpensive metals and coated with a thin layer of gold.

All of these differ from Solid Gold jewelry: Solid Gold jewelry is made entirely of gold and carries an official carat designation.

At Moelry, we are committed to providing knowledge to our customers and confirm that all our jewelry is made entirely of Solid Gold with an approved 18-carat designation.
